Over the past two decades, the potential of the mass media to contribute to changing gender norms on a large scale has been increasingly recognised and incorporated into development programming. More recently, feminist activists have made increasing use of the internet and social media as platforms for challenging discriminatory gender norms and mobilising for change. At the same time, mass and social media are also used by individuals and organisations with conservative agendas to resist changes towards gender equality. The resources in this section discuss the role of mass and social media, effective use of these media, and experiences of using mass and social media to counter groups that challenge gender norm change.
