- Author: Rachel Marcus
- Published by: ODI
In 2023 ODI worked with Irish Aid to document lessons from its education portfolio about how a bilateral donor can support gender-transformative education programming.
This brief summarises insights from Irish Aid experiences in five countries and through multilateral cooperation. It discusses actions in five key areas:
- enhancing equitable access to education
- strengthening teachers’ capacity
- supporting implementation of gender-equitable curricula and learning materials
- promoting safe learning environments
- hardwiring gender into education policy, planning and governance.
The brief concludes with insights on overcoming resistance and on monitoring gender-transformative change.
