- Author: ESubden
- Published by: UNICEF

This technical note aims to develop a common understanding of the key concepts and approaches related to social movements and provides practical guidance on designing and implementing effective interventions that enhance adolescent girls’ agency, including collective action for social change, and build coalitions and movements to eliminate FGM. It draws on a review of academic and grey literature that looked at social movements and adolescent girls’ empowerment. The technical note is intended for Joint Programme staff and partners (i.e., civil society, governments, donors and researchers), including stakeholders beyond the Joint Programme that are involved in the design, implementation and monitoring of programmes promoting the elimination of FGM.
