This report synthesises data collected from more than 4000 women and men in 93 communities across 20 countries, representing the largest ever data-set collected on the topic of gender and development. It demonstrates how women and men's agency are affected by social norms. Social norms around gender are strikingly similar across countries, cultures and contexts as the gender roles assigned to women and girls tend to be closely formed in the domestic setting in relation to chores and childcare activities.
